Vault Door Repairs

Properly functioning linear accelerator vault doors are vital to safe and efficient treatment. Malfunctioning doors should not be used until they are repaired. Our decades of experience in designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing cancer treatment vault doors gives us the expertise required to quickly diagnose and repair vault doors. We know that any down time can be costly, and our goal is to develop and implement long-lasting repairs that provide reliable future operation.

In addition to doors designed and installed by Pitts Little, we can also service and repair most swinging and sliding vault doors from other manufacturers.

Some of the problems that we commonly see and successfully repair include:
– Doors slamming closed
– Doors not fully closing
– Safety Interlocks (limit switches) not engaging
– Bolted hinge failure
– Operator failure
– Gearbox / motor noise

Our experienced team is available to help troubleshoot operational issues, and to design and implement long-term solutions. Give us a call today!

Pitts Little Corporation offers high density (HD) concrete up to 300 pounds per cubic foot. High density concrete gives a composite shield for both neutron and gamma radiation. High density aggregates are the key ingredient in high density concrete. The most common aggregates used to achieve the required densities are Hematite (Fe2O3), Ilmenite (FeO TiO2), Magnetite (Fe3O4) and Steel Aggregate.

The standard sizes of interlocking high density concrete blocks are 6” x 6” x 12” and 4” x 6” x 17”. Additional sizes are available upon request.

In addition to poured, pumped or conveyed high density concrete, Pitts Little Corporation also offers a complete line of high density blocks for radiation shielding. These include two sizes of chevron type interlocking HD blocks where grout is optional, two sizes of solid rectangular HD blocks with matching density HD grout and a 2-core HD masonry unit with matching density HD grout. These multiple size and shape options provided a simple solution to adding space-saving shielding to any wall, ceiling and floor without having to endure lengthy construction delays. You may also choose to work with your own local mason or concrete contractor to save money on installation.

High Dose Radiation (HDR) Enclosures typically take substantial shielding for the walls, doors and ceiling. Pitts Little Corporations HDR enclosures are site specific lead enclosures. We do not take a one size fits all approach to the rooms. The length, width and height are as requested by the facility. The lead thickness will be as specified by the physicist of record.

Using Pitts Little Corporation’s interlocking lead bricks can be an ideal solution for your radiation shielding needs. The efficient interlocking chevron shape allows the bricks to stack neatly, eliminating any line of sight seams, and therefore, any radiation leakage in the wall. The interlocking lead bricks are manageable, easy to assemble and disassemble, require no mortar and can be used in new construction or to augment existing shielding.

Pitts Little Corporation’s interlocking lead bricks have a standard face of 4” X 12” and thicknesses of 3/4”, 1”, 1-1/2”, 2” and 2-1/2”. These interlocking lead bricks can be cut to any size and custom sizes are available. These bricks are generally used in nuclear shielding or in radiation therapy applications such as PET Scan Rooms, Gamma Knife Rooms, HDR Rooms or Linear Accelerator Vaults. The interlocking lead bricks can also be used for ballast weight, as counter balances, in temporary/ permanent storage areas or in any place where additional shielding or weight is needed and space is at a premium.

Interlocking lead bricks and straight lead blocks are available. We will be happy to provide a quotation to furnish and install interlocking lead brick shielding at your facility. Lead bricks are available coated with epoxy paint. Steel tubes may be used if support is required. Please see the pictures below of some of our recent installations.
